School excursion bus hire.

School excursion bus hire in Sydney, for Sydney schools and across New South Wales. Your duty of care does not transfer to the bus company — what we do is make the compliance side easy to evidence, and turn up on time.

What a Sydney school risk assessment needs from us

NSW schools and education and care services must complete a risk assessment before transporting children, and the transport leg forms part of it. Engaging an external operator does not shift that obligation — the duty of care stays with the school. What it does mean is that your assessment needs specific, documented facts about the operator.

We will supply, in writing, before your booking is confirmed:

  • Our NSW Bus Operator Accreditation details
  • Confirmation that the allocated driver holds a current Working With Children Check
  • Certificates of currency for public liability and motor vehicle insurance
  • Vehicle details, including whether the allocated vehicle is seatbelt-equipped
  • Driver contact arrangements for the day
The three charter tiers to scale. Length, not seat count, is what decides whether a vehicle can use a given driveway or turning circle.

Seatbelts and restraints — the honest position

This is where the law diverges sharply from what parents assume, so it is worth stating plainly. Under the NSW Road Rules, the rule requiring a driver to ensure passengers under 16 are restrained does not apply in the same way when the vehicle is a bus. That is a legal distinction about vehicle class, not a safety recommendation.

Where seatbelts are fitted, they must be worn. For highway travel — Canberra, the Blue Mountains, regional camps — most schools now specify a fully seatbelted coach as a matter of policy, and we would encourage you to make that an explicit requirement in your booking rather than an assumption.

Prams cannot be used as a restraint on a charter vehicle; they must be folded and stowed. Luggage must never be stored in the aisle. Students should occupy rear seats where practical.

A charter day, billed depot to depot. The two short bars at either end are why your pickup suburb affects the quote.

Sydney excursions, carnivals and camps

School transport in Sydney is our steadiest work. Day excursions to the museums, the Zoo, Olympic Park and the Blue Mountains are routine. Sports carnivals are a scheduling job more than a transport job — several vehicles, staggered departures, and a finish time that always drifts.

Canberra is the one we get asked about most and the one worth a conversation. It is roughly three hours each way. As a same-day return with a full program in the middle it pushes hard against driver fatigue limits. We will tell you whether your proposed timings work before you publish them to parents.

On the day

Driver name and mobile go to your excursion coordinator in advance. Head counts are the school's responsibility at every boarding, which is standard practice — our drivers will hold departure until your staff confirm the count.

Frequently asked

Questions we get asked about this.

Do your drivers have a Working With Children Check?

Every driver allocated to school work holds a current NSW Working With Children Check. We provide the confirmation in writing with your booking documentation.

Can we request a seatbelted bus?

Yes — request it explicitly at enquiry stage and we will allocate a seatbelt-equipped vehicle. For highway and regional travel we recommend it as standard.

What documentation do you provide for our risk assessment?

Accreditation details, driver WWCC confirmation, certificates of currency for public liability and motor vehicle insurance, and vehicle details including seatbelt configuration.

Is a Canberra day trip realistic?

It is about three hours each way, so a same-day return with a full program is tight against driver fatigue rules. Tell us your proposed departure and return times and we will tell you plainly whether it works or whether it needs an overnight.

Can parents travel on the bus?

Yes, subject to seat availability — accompanying adults are counted in the passenger total, so include them in your headcount when you enquire.
