Wine and day tour charter.
Your itinerary, your cellar doors, one driver for the whole day — and nobody drawing the short straw.
Hunter Valley wine tours from Sydney
Wine tour bus hire in Sydney usually means the Hunter. It is roughly two hours each way from the CBD, which makes a Sydney wine tour a full day rather than a half one. Four cellar doors is a comfortable maximum; five is a route march. Build in a proper lunch stop — the wine goes better and the afternoon goes better.
Most Pokolbin and Lovedale cellar doors require a booking for groups over about ten, and several have gravel or narrow access that suits a midi coach better than a full-size vehicle. We will flag any that are a problem for your chosen vehicle before the day.
Southern Highlands day trips from Sydney
We charter from Sydney to the Southern Highlands just as often. Bowral, Berrima and Mittagong sit about ninety minutes south and combine cellar doors with a genuinely good main-street lunch, which makes them a softer option than the Hunter for a mixed group. Orange and Mudgee are long day trips and better as overnights.
The Blue Mountains and the Central Coast work as day tours that are not about wine at all — lookouts, the Scenic World precinct, Terrigal and the coast road.
We charter the vehicle, we do not sell the tour
To be clear about what you are buying across Sydney and the surrounding wine regions: this is vehicle and driver charter. You choose and book the cellar doors, the lunch and the timings — we get you there safely, on your schedule, and we know the roads and the access. If you would prefer a fully packaged and guided tour, our Waggie Group sister companies run those and we are happy to point you at them.
Alcohol and the practical stuff on a Sydney wine charter
Alcohol on board is fine on private adult charters. Bring water, eat properly, and remember the driver's day is longer than yours — the clock starts at our depot, not at your first pickup. Wine purchases travel in the luggage bay, and if the group is buying by the case, tell us in advance so there is room.
We do charter. Our sister company does touring.
What we sell is the vehicle and the driver. You set the route, the stops and the timings, and we get your group there — anywhere in Sydney and the surrounding regions.
If what you actually want is a packaged, guided tour with the itinerary, commentary and bookings already arranged, that is a different product and our sister company runs it properly. Cooee Tours is part of the same family business and has been operating since 1974.
Visit Cooee ToursQuestions we get asked about this.
How many cellar doors can we fit in a day?
Four is comfortable in the Hunter with a lunch stop; five is rushed. The Southern Highlands supports one or two more because the driving between them is shorter.
Do you book the cellar doors for us?
No — this is vehicle and driver charter, so you choose and book the venues. We will tell you if any of your chosen stops have access problems for the vehicle size you have booked.
Can we drink on the bus?
Yes, on private adult charters. We ask for sensible consumption and no glass underfoot.
Is a Hunter Valley day trip too long?
Two hours each way plus four stops makes for a long but very doable day — typically ten to eleven hours door to door. Start earlier than feels necessary.
